History and culture have brought together in Sri Lanka a fusion of social harmony, practices and belief as represented by the teachings of the Buddha. It’s the “middle way” – and an apt metaphor for success in marriage. With a wedding ceremony in Sri Lanka, you will bring the meaning and harmonies of the local culture into your union – whatever your faith.

WHAT TO WEAR . . .
The Kandyan bride sarees have been passed to us through history from the styles of the Sinhala Royal Family- they convey symbols of wealth, well-being, virtue, and passion. A Kandyan costume may also be selected by the groom – or the groom may choose to simply compliment the woman’s dress with a more conservative suit. All or part of the Kandyan Royal heritage is just one option. The classic western dress is always a comfortable and familiar option.
Sri Lankan history has a long-term cooperative relationship between humans and the world’s greatest land mammal. Since the beginning of recorded time, the elephant has been tamed and trained to play a role of powerful presence in processions and ceremonies on behalf of Sri Lanka rulers. Their presence in civic celebrations is still celebrated in the magnificent Perahera parades. These great creatures may still be convinced to contribute their time and grand spectacle to wedding celebrations and photography sessions. The Kabalana Hotel can make arrangements to meet your requests.
THE PORUWA CEREMONY & REGISTRATION OF THE WEDDING…
The poruwa ceremony is a beautiful option for weddings and is part of the Sri Lankan tradition. The “poruwa” is a beautifully decorated traditional platform upon which the vows are exchanged and chants performed to celebrate the bonds of marriage. The poruwa ceremonies have evolved to become the most popular ritual and an everlasting memory for bride and groom. The registration of your wedding, and the official signing, as overseen by the registrar can be arranged as part of the ceremonies held at the Hotel under the garlanded tent on the beach, decorated with fresh fragrant tropical flowers and a backdrop of the Indian Ocean.
The amazing banquet hall at the Hotel Kabalana is a great venue for our great menus – whether your selection is western, Indian, Sri Lankan or Chinese. Your wishes will be served to perfection.
Our Kabalana Crew is most happy to arrange your preferred music agenda for your special occasion. A wedding coordinator is available to answer any queries and to create your own wedding atmosphere and entertainment.
A CELEBRATION OF HARMONY . . .
